Refrigeration System Design Competition 2024

The 2024 student Refrigeration System Design Competition focuses on refrigeration system design for the food industry, process cooling, etc. For example, design a new supermarket's refrigeration system and air conditioning system in Kuala Lumpur with 10,000 m2. The final RAC System Selection and Design for the proposal building shall address the following major goals:

  1. Low Life Cycle Cost
  2. Low Environmental Impact
  3. Comfort and Health
  4. Creative High-Performance Green Design
  5. Synergy (with architecture)

 

Entry requirement:

  • Student from any Institution, individual or group (Maximum 4 person)        
  • Free entry

Deadline for submission: 15 June 2024

Entries must be submitted electronically by this date by email to reieunikl@gmail.com. Late submissions will not be accepted so all teams must have their submission uploaded by 11:59pm on 15 June 2024.

Submission Instructions

ALL SUBMISSIONS ARE TO BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY via email. Only those teams that register will get the email address, information, and instructions for uploading entries.

The submission for this Design competition must be in PDF format only! No separate visual aids will be accepted (PowerPoint, YouTube, etc.). Deliverable presentation should consist of a 35-page maximum technical report in PDF format only. Font size should be 11 pts, utilizing either Arial or Times New Roman.

Required technical information to be included in the PDF documents:

Cover sheet

  1. Listing of team members and advisors
  2. Table of contents
  3. References and Appendices
  4. Schedules for all major equipment components selected, including listed equipment efficiencies and demonstrated compliance to ASHRAE Standard 90.1
  5. Mechanical floor plans showing general equipment layout and single line duct size and layouts, piping sizes and layouts, terminal units, diffusers, grilles, registers, thermostats, humidistats and any other pertinent devices or equipment. Include at least one detailed example of design detail in compliance with ASHRAE references.
  6. Schematic flow diagram indicating components and accessories and piping sizes and examples of how this system is designed in accordance with ASHRAE manuals
  7. Cooling Load Calculations: Provide checksum reports for each system, design cooling  load reports for selection of cooling  plants
  8. Summary table of ventilation calculations to demonstrate compliance with ASHRAE 62.1
  9. Illustrations of compliance to with stated ASHRAE Standards
