Report: Suruhanjaya Tenaga has initiated a Study on the Development of National Energy Efficiency Action Plan 2.0 (NEEAP 2.0) in May 2023. The main objective of NEEAP 2.0 among others, is to implement a holistic and integrated energy efficiency initiatives to reduce final energy demand in Malaysia from 2026 to 2035. Three sectors (3) namely Industrial, Commercial and Residential/End-use are the focus of energy demand reduction from the use of electricity and thermal energy.
While some initiatives are being proposed to improve energy efficiency for all the 3 sectors, electrical appliances under the existing star ratings and their corresponding MEPS are being reviewed. Under the residential / end use sector, the 2-Star values of Cooling Seasonal Performance Factor (CSPF) of air-conditioners are to be raised higher since manufacturers have over the last few years producing air-conditioners of higher CSPF index reflecting industry’s commitment to energy efficiency.
Under NEEAP 2.0, ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter is a member of the focus working group who is being tasked to gather industry feedback and propose higher CSPF as the MEPS of split units from 2-Star to 5-Star rating covering the 2 range of cooling capacities as depicted below.

In order to achieve this noble objective, it is of paramount importance that the CSPF values are being harmonized and/or agreeable among all manufacturers.
